Shipsterns Bluff is probably one of the wildest looking big waves in the world, like a giant claw of a monster that just wants to grab hold of its victims and rip them to pieces.
The Storm Surfers team has had a few attempts at ‘Shippies’, but this year we arrived when conditions were perfect.

The Tassie boys – Marti Paradisis, James and Tyler Holmer-Cross and their crew – told us that Shippies looked to be one of the best breaks of the season, so we mobilised the full team, with all the gear (adding up to 70 bags – 850 kg of extra luggage) and headed south. We arrived to discover a perfect Shippies day.

This was the first opportunity we’d had to test all our camera rigs and it gave us the chance to nail the shot we wanted – 3D point-of-view inside the barrel of a 15ft slab weave. This has become the signature shot for SS3D.
