New Tracks issue out now

The February 2010 edition of ‘Tracks’ surf magazine has just hit the shelves and comes with a free DVD ‘Bubble N’Squeak’ featuring our very own Storm Surfers Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones as they attempt to surf the as yet unchartered Pedra Branca.

Pedra Branca lies off the southern coast of Tasmania, a giant rock protruding from the endless ocean surrounding it. It is inhospitable, dangerous and sits in the middle of nowhere, about thirty kilometers away from the coast of Tasmania itself.

The waves are mythical, huge and unsurfed, and the reef is renowned for its rich variety of marine life, specifically sharks, which according to our man Ross Clarke-Jones, was ‘a bit of an issue’.

None of this phased the team of five surfers who set out and succeeded in riding some of the biggest waves ever surfed in Australia.

Joining Ross and Tom were Tasmanian big wave surfers Marti Paradisis and brothers Tyler and James Holmes-Cross.

‘We had been talking about it for maybe two years…when we got there and actually saw the wave, we were like, this wave is amazing,’ says Tyler, who along with the rest of the crew caught numerous waves upwards of 20 feet high.

The latest issue of ‘Tracks’ comes with the complimentary dvd ‘Bubble N’Squeak’, a four part DVD featuring the Storm Surfers/Pedra Branca featurette.

Check out the preview above and be sure to grab yourself a copy of the February issue, out now, to see the team explore this mysterious uncharted stretch of ocean.
