Ross wipes out on massive Shipsterns

Just got back from Shipsterns. It was 2 degrees C, snowing on the mountains, we got some waves and Ross copped one of the worst wipeouts ever – hurt his ankle had to go to hospital but he is OK and not broken – all on tape, stay tuned. For now, check out some lo rez shots in the gallery.

Hi Guys< Absolutely stoked !, You Guys Deserve Mega Respect For what your Doing ! Yeah I know you can climb Everest, you can become a mercenary an go and shoot up people in Iraq or Afghanistan. Hey you can even try to be a “Real Hero” and earn megabucks as some souped up Corporate Exec, totally committed to the ongoing rape of the world. But you Guys ain’t trying to do anything but Fit In and Blend with what this gorgeous planet wants us to to truly enjoy and revel In.This Planet Deserves Absolute Respect and you Guys, With what your choosing to do, have No choice other than to give your absolute respect if you are to survive. If only, as part of our upbringing, We had to spend 5 minutes trying to do what you’s are Doin. Shit, this world would be a better place. Hey, Wish you Guy’s all the best and don’t forget to try and stay “upright” Onya’s.

Yep, A mate of mine owns a farm just near the place, and last time I was there, I couldn’t beleive the size of the swell. Big, cold mean and nasty. I never imagined someone would try and surf it. Good stuff (crazy bastards!)

must admit haven’t seen dangerous banks in person, so fair call “fly on the wall”. From the photos posted though it didn’t look that big. what size waves are capable of breaking there? I have witnessed surfable 30-40 ft waves “somewhere” on the west coast. speaking to local fishermen i also know there are waves that break out on the continental shelf that have potential, but are usually hammered by strong onshore winds in big swells. who knows there may be a tassie style cortez out there somewhere

With all due respect Jez, Nowhere in Tassie (maybe Australia) gets bigger than Dangerous Banks. You wouldn’t argue if you’ve seen the place – tidal amplification its called.

how many waves were surfed in that session? that one empty barrel shot looks sick. i am an ex tassie local and am pretty sure there would be better tow options somewhere in the south west during such an impressive swell. there are numerous outer reefs off the north west aswell that would provide way bigger waves than dangerous banks. keep searching boys i”m sure you’ll find ur pot of gold out there somewhere!

it takes more than a snarling 30ft tall, 25 tonne Shipsterns ice monster to break RCJ! Even it gets help from the razor-sharp black granite reef below.

but rest easy Ross – hope you get out of hospital soon.

(can’t wait to see the footage – hehehe)
