Well Dangerous Banks was an expedition – we planned and took all the right steps to go out into the unknown and score waves never ridden – the real un-ridden realm.
But a week later all our instincts told us SOMETHING was gonna happen in WA. The weather showed some interesting action and it was a real toss of the coin whether we mobilized everyone and got out there.
If anyone knows what I’m like – there was little doubt that I wasn’t going to at least have a look, in person. I’d rather get to a spot and NOT have it working than hang around at home wondering if I should have gone – that does my head in. So Tom and I along with Rick R and a small crew went off on Saturday. By the time we got cars and skis ready and drove down to Margeret’s it was pretty late so all we could do was have a quick scan on the computer check the buoys and go to bed.
The Sunday was a mad dash to the ramp and by the time we got out conditions were looking pretty good. Sunrise, 2 degrees and no wind. 15ft. What really struck me was the fact that NONE of the locals thought it was worthy so we had the joint to ourselves. Oh yeah local giant, James Catto and his mate turned up but they were all tuckered out by the arvo – back to shore for a bit of quiet time kids.
Tom and I stayed out for 6 hours and by the arvo the 20 footers came rolling in. Got some crazy rides, a few un-makable barrels, but all in all pretty epic. Tested out some new camera gear so keep your eyes open for some clips on the site. For now check out the stills here. It was the perfect way to wrap up a fortnight of chasing waves around Southern Australia.

The previous comment refers to the Dangerous Banks session – the principle is intact.

Well Sonja Mcmillan – there were actually 3 other Tasmanian surfers out there during this session. They are referred to as “a small crew”. Something insignificant like that….
